Remember that vibrant New York City time-lapse we presented to you in the summer? South-Korean image maker Kyoung Sop Choi, a.k.a. JANSOLI, had fallen in love with the city’s bustling nightlife, non-stopping lights and subways, ferries, stream of people, and so on, and he expressed those feelings in an astonishing 8K film.
Turns out the “Big Apple” isn’t the only extremely colorful and lively city… Well, of course we knew that, but it’s nice to see a reminder every once in a while. A reminder by Michael Shainblum, for example.
The Southern Californian photographer, filmer and time-lapser got the opportunity to spend four days in Shangai in 2015, together with his friend Brian Hawkins. They felt that they were only able to “scratch the surface” of this beautiful Chinese metropolis, and can’t wait to go back as soon as possible, but they were able to capture their first impression through a spine-tingling time-lapse.
Clearly, the duo thought the Oriental Pearl Tower deserved the lead role in their film – not that they are wrong. Together with its surrounding buildings and the embracing Huangpu River, a sample of the city’s colorful liveliness is perfectly captured. Even when zooming in on streets full of people, Shainblum and Hawkins are able to make it look like a cozy nest of ants.
