Hurricane Florence is dominating the headlines this week, and for good reason. The mega storm is larger than Hurricane Katrina, and as it barrels towards the Carolinas, 120mph winds and 13-foot storm surge could leave Florence in the history books as one of the worst natural disasters to hit the United States mainland. 10 million people are currently under warning or watch. The Atlantic waves in Florence’s strongest parts are reaching heights of 83 feet. This storm is no joke.
If those stats weren’t enough to convince you, Alexander Gerst, a European astronaut aboard the International Space Station, shared some images on his Flickr that show just how serious this storm is.
His description on this photo really shows the enormity of Hurricane Florence.
Hurricane Florence is so enormous, we could only capture her with a super wide angle lens from #ISS, 400 km directly above the eye.
While the images and Mother Nature’s creation is incredibly beautiful, it’s a good reminder of how brutal and powerful nature can be. We are wishing everyone in the affected path well, but if you reading this, you had better be far from the Carolina coastlines!
