With the history told through its people and stoic architecture, the city of Cairo has proved to be a living relic. Its streets are filled with vendors selling everything from fruits to metalware; filled with hundreds of people which bring back that atmosphere of old bazaars. Many of the locals participate in old traditions like afternoon tea or smoking from a hookah which has continued for ages. When walking through the streets, it’s not necessarily going back in time but watching these old ways continue to exist in our world.
Gunther Machu has lived in Cairo for nine years. He revisited the city back in 2012 and was able to create this short film with the limited time he had there. You can see the rest of his work on Vimeo.
