San Francisco is known for it’s elaborate New Year’s Eve firework displays, and there is no better place to watch the show then from Treasure Island, an artificial piece of land in San Francisco Bay. The beautiful backdrop of downtown San Francisco and the illuminated Bay Bridge make the location popular among local photographers, many who arrive up to 12 hours early in order to secure their spot along the water. On New Year’s Eve in 2014, photographer and filmmaker Toby Harriman scored a remarkable spot and shot off frame after frame of the colorful show. From the hundreds of photos, Harriman created a timelapse film that shows why photographers far and wide flock to the “City by the Bay” to capture their New Year’s Eve firework photos.
Harriman has also created an informative tutorial on how to blend multiple exposures to create the ultimae New Year’s Fireworks photo.
