…as told by Scott Markewitz:
Iceland has been at the top of my bucket list for years, so when the call came to go on a mountain bike adventure across the island with mountain biking legends Hans Rey (@hansnowayrey) and Steve Peat (@stevepeat), I jumped on it. After spending a day in Reykjavik we flew north to Akureyri where we met Runar and Magne, our guides from Icebike Adventure (@icebike), and headed out in their custom Land Rover for our first day’s ride from the northern coast.
During the summer, the days are long, and we rode until midnight, finishing at the raging waterfall Dettifoss. For the next five days, we made our way south across the incredible and diverse landscape that Iceland is famous for, crossing colorful mountains, lava fields, glacial rivers and snowfields until we arrived on the south coast of the island at Skogarfoss, the tallest waterfall in Iceland. Keep an eye out for upcoming stories and photos in magazines around the world and in videos produced by Cedric Tassan (@vtopo.fr).
Iceland was a trip of a lifetime, but only the beginning of an action-packed month across Europe. From there I flew to Geneva and met up with French videographer Seb Montaz (@sebastienmontazrosset) and drove to Val Di Sole in the Dolomites to do a trail running shoot for Salomon. We met up with Salomon athletes Davide Magnini (@davidemagnini), Micha Steiner (@michasteiner_95), and Martina Valmassoi (@martiskka) and spent three days hiking and shooting in the nearby mountains. It was an incredible shoot in one of my favorite mountain ranges in the world.
Next stop was the UK, shooting stills for Specialized Bicycles on a Destination Trail UK video shoot (#destinationtrailuk). I met the crew in London and spent two days shooting in the nearby Surrey Hills with Marshall Mullen (@marshallmullen) and Christian Faircloough (@christianfairclough). From there we flew to Glasgow for five days of shooting around Fort William and the Scottish Highlands. It is such a beautiful place, and in many ways it reminded me of being in Iceland again.
It’s great to be home for a few days to recharge and remember some of the great moments from this trip. But, I’m never home for long and will be back on a plane again in a week. Next stop Argentina…
