The first rule of Dubai's fight club is…tell everyone about it! The ancient art of Kushti (asian wrestling) has been taking place in Deira for over 25 years. Hundreds of mainly Pakistani men come together every Friday to participate/compete for the title. We were surprised that not many people (even locals) were aware of this weekly 'pehelwani' in one of Dubai's oldest neighbourhoods. I was made to feel very welcome and given ringside (mud side?) access to the fights and left with a pocket full of stories from the locals. Crater Lake is so crowded in the summer, but we had it almost to ourselves on this winter day. We're not sure why that's the case – the winter landscape there is so stunning! Mount Zwegabin, Hpa An, Myanmar

Over 1000 buddhas hand-carved into rock are placed leading to the base of Mt. Zwegabin in Hpa-an (pronounced Pah-an), Myanmar. Locals come and ascend the 2-hour climb to pray and/or visit the monastery located at the top. After waking up and seeing the sunrise from the monastery, I descended the mountain. Workers were burning clipped branches and the smoke, albeit a bit of a nuisance while sucking in deep breaths, added quite a bit of mysticism to the aura already in place.

The fishermen of Inle Lake use a traditional practice of hooking one foot around the oar to propel the boat. When he rotates his foot, it glides the boat over the glassy water. This conical basket will be plunged into the water when he's ready to catch.
