Since the release of the original “Paradise x SF” piece 3 years ago, Matthew Maniego has anything but lost his love for time lapse. In between other assignments, he was working on a sequel for three years, which he now finally is proud to present. “Paradise x SF 2” is Matthew’s stunning 4K interpretation of “a little slice of heaven, right here on Earth. My home, my paradise, San Francisco.”
I chose “Paradise” because San Francisco is that to me. You can be in the heart of an urban jungle one minute, and the next you can be at the beach enjoying the sunset. I guess that’s what makes San Francisco unique, and well, perfect.
In contrast to its predecessor, “Paradise x SF 2” is more quiet and serene and seems to focus a bit more on San Francisco’s amazing landscape scenery. Matthew’s love for magical cloud formations gets additional emphasis, and because of the 4K definition, images are of course much more detailed.
In a talk with DIY Photography, Matthew shares some information on how it came together. He used his Canon 5D Mark III and Sony A7S-II with only a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L ll, 50mm f/1.2 L and a 70-200mm f/4 L lens. His film involved shooting over 100,000 photographs in a time span of about six weeks, good for a little more than 1.5TB of storage space.
We certainly feel like the sequel is an upgrade, compared to the first one – see below. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments. If you like time lapse video’s like these, you can find more of our picks here.
