Since I was young, I always enjoyed hiking through the mountains and traveling the world to explore new places. Last year, I traveled for 6 months through several countries in Asia, ending with a big adventure in Nepal! 15 days of hiking through the Himalayas in the Everest Region and seeing Mount Everest in real life is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. This self-portrait shows me walking down Kala Patthar with Mount Everest in the background. The Kala Patthar peak shows you incredible views of Everest and I am walking on the highest point that I reached during the trek, 5550 meters above sea level. It’s a challenge to reach the top in the early morning because of the freezing cold and the lack of oxygen at these heights, but the views are all worth it. For a moment I felt like standing on top of the world, until I realized the Mount Everest summit was still 3.5km higher than I was.

We woke up 7 AM to get an early start to the day. We were super stoked because it rained the night before and we were expecting crazy foggy weather. Waking up to what we saw was just amazing. We later figured out that Glacier Point Rd. was closed, so it was either stay in the valley all day, or do the 10 miles roundtrip trail to make it up to Glacier point. We decided to do the trail and it was so worth it! Definitely one of the best days of my life!

I started getting into photography a few years ago, when I got my first phone with a camera in it. The more I traveled, the more I wanted to capture every little thing I saw and share it with all my friends and family. I got my first camera a couple of years ago and photography, along with travel, became my passions.

This is one of my favorite shots because it perfectly shows how you don’t need to be a master of photography to take a good shot. You just need to get out there with fresh eyes and realize that beauty is simple, just like nature. Sometimes you just need to kneel down a little bit or turn around to find a different perspective and .. there it is, right in front of you.

My advice for everyone who wants to get into photography is simple: go out and shoot. No excuses such as “I don’t have the right gear or the time”. If that is your passion then make time for it. Start simple, look for what attracts you in life, from people to landscapes and street photography. Do not be afraid of experimenting. Luckily for us, we live in the digital era where even if you take a “not-so-good shot” you can always delete it and start all over again. Always carry your camera/phone with you, you never know when a crazy landscape or beautiful sunlight pops out of the sky.

Get out there, find friends to share your passion with or even on your own, there is so much to learn and discover out there. Never stop exploring!

There are moments of my trips that overwhelm me and stop me in my tracks. This was one of those moments in Canada. I had seen hundreds of pictures of this spot and wanted to see it for myself. But actually being out there on that ledge, watching the sun start to fade and feeling the crisp cooling air was more than I could have ever imagined. In this moment I was completely enveloped by nature and nothing could change that, even though we saw a bear there earlier that day. It’s times like these I’m reminded that it’s important to take a break from the speed of life and just go with the flow of nature. Lose yourself to the world and just breathe.

While on a holiday with my Girlfriend and her family in Noosa, we decided it would be a good idea to wake up at 4:30am to capture the sunrise at Sunshine Beach near the place we were staying at. We were fortunate enough to have a neat cloud formation in the sky as the sun popped up from the horizon which  created this scene. One of my most memorable photographic sessions, the best company and a magical morning all together.

Noosa is full of surprises and unlike any other place in Australia with its tropical weather, early sun rises and early sun sets making a completely different lifestyle while you are visiting. They say the early bird gets the worm and this place is a great example of that. Everyone is waking up early to go for swim, surf,
walk, run or even to just enjoy the serenity and views because it’s so beautiful in the morning here.

]]> I have been a proud member of the Resource Magazine family for 45 weeks. I initially wrote posts for the main site, but I slowly gravitated towards Resource Travel. I fell in love with writing stories about two of my favorite things in this world: photography and travel. I spoke with dozens of travel photographers, who inspired me time and time again with their stories and their photography, which I then got to share with you, the Resource Travel reader. At one point, Resource Travel’s Editor-in-Chief Michael Bonocore called me his “rockstar writer,” which was a huge compliment, and I eventually was assigned to take care of our weekly #ResourceTravel Instagram Photos of the Week posts. Every week, I got to explore the world through the eyes of our incredible Instagram community. We recently reached 75,000 posts that carry our very own hashtag, and to journey through them every week, has been a privilege. I hope that whoever gets this assignment next, will enjoy it as much as I did. Here’s my last selection.

@danieljoll is a mentor for the New Zealand Alpine Team, who recently spent a few weeks climbing in the Rockies. I was very interested to chat with him. Senior, experienced alpinists have developed a multi-year mentor program to “provide guidance, encouragement, support, tuition, partners, community and competition” to the next generation. The hope is that some of the young climbers will stick with the program and eventually mentor the next group in turn. Over many years this will grow into a collective, self-perpetuating program that will ultimately advance and accelerate the national standard of alpinism. What a vision, superb work guys! Whelp, 2016 had been a really strange year. A year spent torn between chasing dreams and reality; A year spent questioning myself what lies ahead of graduate life. There were days when I'd wake up and wondering what I am doing with my life. Was it a lack of ambition & life goals? Or perhaps what I view as "living" simply isn't what society deems it to be (study, work, marriage, children, and death). One thing's for sure, my photographic journey had been really colourful (Geddit?). From shooting weddings for the 1st time, graduation and portraitures to winning a photo competition, I'd never imagine the progression made in those past 12 months. While my editing had been refined over the year, I must admit to being stuck in a coloring conundrum. Should I stick to a standard color for my shots or should I edit as I feel the "mood" should be? The struggle for my unique voice will undoubtedly carry into the new year. Hopefully I would have an answer 1 year from now. My instagram had shifted towards being a platform for me to share my shots and stories, than a life diary (leading to some who think I'm perpetually overseas, opps). The coming year will continue that thread, hopefully with more emphasis on the stories behind the shots. Speaking of travelling, I was in a truly privileged position to be able to travel extensively & experience new amazing things in 2016: * Blue fires of Ijen & Bromo sunrise. * 4 nights of dancing aurora & ice caving in Iceland. * Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp. * Getting inches away from a moving train in Thailand's Maeklong Train Market. * Tasting civet cat shit coffee (not much diff) in Guangzhou. * Lounging on a pretty luxurious cruise. It's hard to say what's in store for 2017. A more mundane work life? Turning into one of society's many lemmings? Or trying to have it all, blending exciting work life & brand new globe trotting adventures? I'm truly excited for 2017. I've now boarded a train with no end in sight. ]]> As the clock ticks down to midnight and we look forward to the adventures to be had in 2017, I decided to put together a collection of the top 9 photos of 2016 on the Resource Travel Instagram account. Now, having been to Iceland twice, I obviously know it’s one of the most incredible places on the planet, but based on the fact that 5 of our top 9 most liked images were from Iceland, apparently our fans can’t get enough of the unique landscapes either! In addition to the five images from Iceland, two others were from Iceland’s similar looking sister, The Faroe Islands.

Even more so, it appears our community is drawn to colder images and environments, as there is only one photo in the nine with a warm tone and setting.
