Filmmaker Casey Neistat shocked his 6 million YouTube subscribers last month when he abruptly ended his daily vlog. Soon after, his choice made sense as he announced that his app Beme had been acquired by CNN, and Neistat would be at the helm of an unnamed, yet to be defined media outlet.
Now, while most of his fans were distraught, I understood and supported why Neistat would give up the formula which made him most famous. Neistat has the talent and the power to do much bigger and more bad ass things than spending 16-18 hours a day producing a daily vlog. So, this morning, when I awoke to Neistat on a snowboard literally flying around a ski resort in Finland while holding onto a massive custom-made drone, I immediately felt excited for the future of the Neistat films. Sure, he will still vlog, like he did two weeks ago. But this is the new Casey Neistat, and I couldn’t be happier.
