Sunset over the famous Thor's Well located in Oregon's beautiful Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. ———————————– We drove like mad men after exploring water falls along the McKenzie River in the Willamette Forest to try and reach Cape Perpetua in time for sunset. Due to the last minute planning that went into this trip, much of my location scouting was done via google while en route to the next location. However, with horrible service I really didn't get to look up much for Thor's Well, including exactly how to get there. Because of this, we drove a little past it and ended up at the Devil's Churn, where we finally got a map and realized we had passed it. With the sun quickly setting, we made a mad dash back and luckily the cloudy weather prolonged the sunset for us. “Reaching for the Stars” ::: Deep within the hoodoo walls of the amphitheater below Sunset Point of Bryce Canyon National Park, the Navajo Loop Trail passes through a small “grove” of Ponderosa Pines (Pinus ponderosa) that are reaching for the sky through the narrow passage. Bryce Canyon National Park’s main attraction is the amphitheater full of hoodoos and other formations eroded out of the Claron Formation, the deposition of lake sediments about 60 million years ago when the region was much lower in elevation and later uplifted as part of the Colorado Plateau, which is now a landscape of erosion. ©2016 Christopher K.
