Recently, travel selfies have been a hot topic in the news, cumulating last week with the shocking report on Conde Nast Traveler that claims there have been more “selfie” related deaths this year than fatalities from shark attacks. While both scenarios are extremely rare, the trend of dangerous selfies has certainly increased with the advancement of compact and affordable camera systems, as well as photographers seeking recognition for their brazen acts.
We here at Resource Travel and Resource Magazine do not condone this behavior in any way, in fact, we would like to stress no photo is worth your life. But, in the same regard, most of the people who take these selfies are in fact professionals, even if they appear slightly lunatic. While selfie injuries and fatalities have in fact been on the rise, it is important to remember that not all travel selfies are dangerous, and almost all are taken without any issues. To help illustrate both sides of the argument, I have gathered a collection of some of my favorite, yet dangerous, selfies, from 500px.
So what are your thoughts? How far out of your comfort zone have you gone to get a selfie? Did you have any regrets after you took it?
Remember, no photo is worth your life. Please be careful, and never push the boundaries past your comfort zone.
